Also known for its range of workout clothing, it’s easy to forget Myprotein literary made its name making protein supplements. Its Impact Whey Powder shake is 80% protein concentrate. Each 25g serving will therefore give you 20g of protein to feed your muscle development. The shake also contains 4.5g branch chain amino acids (BCAAs), including 2.5g leucine.

This powder is low in fat and sugar and uses sucralose and acesulfane K to sweeten. The shake is a little too sweet, but there are a number of flavours that are sweetened with stevia, which should dial the sweetness back.

It’s worth noting that its minimal ingredient list does contain soy and artificial flavours, which may not appeal to people looking for something less synthetic.

A serving of the Myprotein shake contains 103 calories when mixed with water, which is the second lowest on test. There’s just 1.9g of fats and 1g of sugars per serving too. The product mixes fairly well, but it isn’t completely smooth, and we had to shake it a few times while drinking it to stop some sediment from settling.

The resealable pouches are available in five sizes, from 250g to 5kg. The 1kg pouch works out at £1 a serving, which is decent value, with the 5kg pouch better still. You can only get the Impact Whey Protein powder from myprotein.com and you’ll need to pay postage under £45 but delivery is fairly quick.

The packaging is fiddly to re-seal, which is irritating, so you might want to decant the mixture into a sealable container. The only other issue you might have is choosing which flavour to try. There are more than 40 to choose from, including unusual and exotic flavours ranging from speculoos and jelly bean (buttered popcorn) to peach tea, mango and tiramisu.
